SESSION STREAMS

1. Pilates for Functional Fitness and Athletic Conditioning

The goal of these sessions is to work through and master every exercise in the Pilates repertoire with correct alignment and following all Pilates movement principles. Variations will be provided to suit every level and no experience is necessary. The focus is fitness, mobility, posture, and physical mastery. Privates and semi-privates.

2. Therapeutic Pilates

The goal of these sessions is to correct muscle imbalances, assess and restore optimal breathing patterns, and to assess and restore optimal deep core function. Pilates is taught through the lens of Neurokinetic Therapy to identify and correct dysfunction, weakness and muscle inhibition. Manual muscle testing and postural assessments will accompany Pilates exercises. Although very physically challenging, these sessions focus on what is holding you back from both a strength and injury perspective. Privates only.

Before Pilates filled my world, it was yoga.  And before yoga, it was dance. Movement has always been center stage for me.

This month has been an exciting one, but also a stressful one.  But when I hit the mat, everything fades away…and there is just me, music, and movement.  It is the most  peaceful, grounding, calming sensation in the world.

The Pilates roll up. This exercise builds STRONG a The Pilates roll up. This exercise builds STRONG abs and a flexible supple spine….but what if you can’t get up? And once you do, how can you get maximum benefits?

Here are some tips from my recent tutorial.

1. Cat cow is your new best friend to build spinal mobility.
2. Ab curl - break it up and start strengthening your upper abs.
3. 1/2 roll back - flex your lumbar spine with support from your abdominals.  Further strengthen your abdominals. Make sure things feel good. 
4. Freeze. Freeze. And freeze. Momentum does NOT belong when doing the roll up.  Only smooth muscular control. I like this game called freeze where you challenge yourself to freeze at any moment. 
5. Support your head and encourage the head to be heavy in the hands.  This is another way of saying, ‘Stop trying to use your neck to get up’. Your neck won’t get you very far. And if you keep trying to use it to compensate for weak abs it will make you very uncomfortable.

New class! When I started focusing on the followi New class!

When I started focusing on the following, my torso got leaner and stronger, and my chronic neck tension disappeared. 😊

1. Good breathing technique 
2. Core stability
3. Spinal mobility
4. Building abdominal strength

Here are snippets from my online class Intermediate 17-Foam Roller - a class that focuses on all of the above. This theme runs through so many of my sessions.  I believe so strongly in its power for transformation.
