Welcome to Powerhouse Pilates

We want you to feel welcome at our studio so we’ve created a space where you can relax, reveal your challenges, rejuvenate and focus. It’s light­hearted and fun. And you don’t have to be fit to come here. You come here to get fit! Come as you are. We call our exquisite home­based studio the Zen studio because that’s what it feels like. Zen. Serene. Clean. Calm. But that doesn’t mean that you won’t be reaching for your edge and shedding more than a couple beads of sweat. You will. This space is designed for movement.

I have always been fascinated with movement. It’s my greatest passion and such a big part of who I am. I have or continue to be a dancer, yogi, runner, rock climber, skier, hiker, mountaineer, pilates enthusiast and teacher. Pilates is the most intelligent form of exercise I’ve ever come across. I absolutely love the way it makes me feel and I practice it every single day. I want to share my passion with others, so that they can find their strength and accomplish whatever it may be that they’re striving for.

This is one of my favourite quotes because it highlights the power of the present moment. 

I think we can have the best goals and the best intentions but transformation happens right here, right now, in this moment.

The word practice takes the pressure off.  We don’t have to be at a certain level, or look a certain way.  We can show up and meet ourselves exactly where we are in the present moment. We can take the time to build a strong foundation and explore our potential from there.

Transformation takes time,  but I think if you show up for yourself consistently with 100% of your focus, energy, and awareness in the present moment, you will get impressive results.

I’m still going strong with my early morning ritual of a side somersault out of bed straight onto the mat. I highly recommend it. Although next time I film it, maybe I’ll consider brushing my hair and opening my eyes. 😆

This series focuses on ‘The Trinity’. This is Pilates lingo for engaging the adductors (inner thighs), the abdominals, and the glutes simultaneously.  This creates an incredible amount of strength down the midline of the body.

TECHNIQUE💡
During core work, when you are on your back and your legs are in the air, your low back should reach for the mat.  Keep your abs drawn in.  Abs popping out is a sign that you need an easier version.

A strong mid back, and moving from a long, strong, engaged torso contributes to excellent posture.  Good posture looks amazing, and feels even better. 

I’m using a light band, but it feels intense when you focus on getting your shoulders into the right position.  Find your neutral. For me, I need to remind myself to bring my shoulders down and back.

Glutes 🍑 and core 💪 with resistance bands.  The purple band is heavy resistance and the green band is light. 

Doing this band workout outside in the sun with a breeze and the birds felt like paradise.  I’ve missed the sun! This is a challenging series. 💪💪💪 

Technique tips 💡💡💡
1. Core: When you’re lying on your back and your legs are in the air, your low back needs to reach for the ground.  Shorten the distance between your hips and your ribs.  Imagine that you have a blueberry under your low back. Press down on it gently.
2. Bridge: Pubic bone to the sky, ribs to the earth.  Keep your hips level.  Keep your knees in line with your second toes. Maintain a long engaged torso.

I think the reformer + stability ball just kicked I think the reformer + stability ball just kicked my butt. 😆🔥😅 

FOCUS of this series = core stability for a strong, long, lean torso that supports you and helps prevent injuries.

I’m a big believer in building a rock solid foundation with the basics and then having some fun with new variations.  This workout was fun in a burning muscle, slightly shaky, intense concentration kind of way.  Know what I mean? 😊😊🙃 The stability ball… it definitely adds some spice. 🌶🌶🌶

I bought my reformer 15 years ago and it’s still going strong.  I’m pretty sure it’s the best purchase I have ever made. ❤️
