About Powerhouse Pilates

Do you crave more energy? Do you feel stiffness or pain? Do you feel at war with your body? Or do you dream of taking your sport to the next level? Then you’ve come to the right place.

Welcome to Powerhouse Pilates and your teacher, Jody Brouwers. (More about Jody here!)

Joseph Pilates believed that in order to achieve true happiness it is imperative to gain mastery of your body. If at the age of thirty you are stiff and out of shape, then you are ‘old’. If at sixty you’re supple and strong, then you are ‘young’. Pilates gives us an opportunity to feel young, and stay feeling that way for a very long time.

Why the name Powerhouse Pilates?

No, we're not trying to be Hercules here. The powerhouse is the energetic center of the body and includes the abdominal muscles, lower back muscles, pelvic floor, gluts, and muscles around your hips. Joseph Pilates believed that all movements of the human body emanate from the powerhouse. This is center of power. Developing a strong beautiful set of abs is only the tip of the iceberg. As you strengthen your powerhouse, your strength will increase exponentially. Your confidence will increase too.

We want you to feel welcome at our studio so we’ve created a space where you can relax, reveal your challenges, rejuvenate and focus. It’s light­hearted and fun. And you don’t have to be fit to come here. You come here to get fit! Come as you are. We call our exquisite home­based studio the Zen studio because that’s what it feels like. Zen. Serene. Clean. Calm. But that doesn’t mean that you won’t be reaching for your edge and shedding more than a couple beads of sweat. You will. This space is designed for movement. It is equipped with top of the line Stott Pilates equipment such as the reformer, the stability chair, the ladder barrel and the cadillac. We’ve also got innovative props to add challenge and support. Don’t let these machines intimidate you. They’re fun and definite allies in getting your body to move and look like never before. You’re not just going to love the look of your longer, leaner, more sculpted body; you’re going to love how you feel in your body and you’ll experience an improvement in your posture, strength, and mobility.

After your session, return home equipped with your daily Pilates routine for the week. We believe that establishing a daily 10 to ­15 minute Pilates routine is essential and we will guide you and motivate you every step of the way.

Powerhouse Pilates is unique. In addition to the highest standard of instruction, we infuse the environment and the smallest of details with attention, thoughtfulness and care. Clients will often return home with an article specific to their goals or a healthy recipe. Take your fitness to a whole new level and allow your positive transformation to begin today.

I’m challenging my obliques and glutes (glute med) here. I’m also adding a weight to add a little bit of extra 🔥. This series felt divine. 🙂 I hope these variations give you some good ideas.

Technique tip:

✨Whenever you’re in plank, push the ground away to protect your shoulders.

I went for a trail run in the sun with a good frie I went for a trail run in the sun with a good friend followed by a short stability workout on the deck. Of course, I was supposed to be doing admin work but there’s always later right? 😆

I love a good post run wobbly Pilates-inspired flow. Stability training is an excellent way to promote injury resilience so you can push yourself to the next level.  Soft balls are my favourite prop for this.

Add a stability ball! 😊🔥

This was the most challenging reformer workout I’ve done in awhile. I love how adding some instability can turn on every muscle in the body and bring on laser sharp focus in a heartbeat.

Pilates is amazing all on its own….or as a way t Pilates is amazing all on its own….or as a way to build a superb base for every single sport.

I just got back from a very FUN family ski trip. Skiing with teenage boys means double blacks all day long…but starting late and spending a lot of time eating. 😂 I skied 10 days in a row with no aches and pains thanks to Pilates! 

Mountains, adrenaline, natural beauty, family time, and 10 days of burning muscles. My version of paradise! ❤️
